Default Stop just telling people to use the search

If you just tell people to use the search without answering the question we now have a million threads with no answer in them. Instead of being able to find my answer I have to open a few dozen threads that say nothing but "Use the search" in them.

If someone is looking to research something then maybe the search feature can help..but if they just want a question answered then that is what the forum suppose to be for. I guess if you don't want to take the time to answer the question then don't answer at all, not "use the search feature" JMHO

I think this has been discussed before, which you would have known if you had searched

It's not someone answering the question or posting a link and then telling someone that there is a search feature that is annoying. It's when the entirety of the post is "use the search" because now when someone uses the search all they get is threads that say to search.

I hope I'm not guilty; I usually answer the question as well as letting the new member know about the Search feature, since it makes things much easier when you're looking for a question that has been answered. It's much faster to search than wait for a thread response...

Have you ever tried to do a search for "Do A Search"?

Seriously, the advanced search function on this site ba-lows! It's just a string query. I'm sure it's a limitation of the software the forum uses, but it's still archaic at best. I think that's what makes the "Do A Search D-bags" look even more stupid.

Default Do a search

In all honesty, can someone tell me how to "do a search" on the threads? I have never found it.

This place has been sold again? Can you do anything about those annoying ads?

any why you're at it, get the member locator back.

Do a search to find your answer

It's on the top of your screen in the red bar. It will only search a cople months back unless you click "advance search" and check off "Archives".

'Click for advanced search' - You want that one - as good as it gets.
Also tick the box for 'look in archives' too.

Sometimes it really doesn't work at all. Try typing in 'C4' in the Audio/Electronic forum and you barely get anything of what's actually hidden in there

Thread Tools vbmenu_register("threadtools"); Search this Thread vbmenu_register("threadsearch"); Display Modes vbmenu_register("displaymodes");

There are two search boxes. One is at the very top and the other is just to the right of POST REPLY in the thread you are in. This is the one you want.

If there has been a good past thread answering the question instead of replying do a search just post a link to the prior thread.
