I just bought a 94 vette. The LCD is pretty hard to see in the daytime, but I actually don't hate it. I plan to try to change the bulbs out to get some extra brightness. I'd also like to change the color. I'd like a white background with red lighting at night. Does anyone know of an aftermarket display like that (or any aftermarket LCD display)? Also, any advice on modifying what I've got?

If your LCD is basically the same as my 91, the LCD has a photocell which controls the LCD intensity based on available daylight.
I can change the intensity during the day by blocking this photocell.
Does your LCD get brighter in the daylight when you turn on your parking lights?
With lights on, does your dimmer control the LCD intensity?
Do you have dark tinted windows which may affect light available to the photocell?
I think there are two fuses, L INST and R INST which are in the IP dimmer control circuit. You might check them.
Also, the orange glow is provided by bulbs reflection off the orange plastic panel behind the LCD. I would think you could change the color of the display by changing the color of that panel. Maybe a white background and a red bulbs behind the lcd?
