Default Hood latch handle help!!

Upon opening the hood, I pulled the hood cable release handle inside my 91 and OH NO , the plastic latch handle came out and I had to pull on the handle inside the car with both cables attached to get the hood to open. Now the handle is just hanging by both cables in my car. What can I do. Also a piece of metal (about 1.5 inches long and circular tube like with a groove in it) fell out. Have no idea what the heck to do . Maybe a dealer , but I stay far away from them and my guy is 400 round-trip miles away. I never ever heard of this happening, am I the first??

Any idea if a dealer will be able to fix it and what the cost of labor should be? My cables are still good, might just have to replace the handle or some other minor part

It's a pretty easy job to replace the cables yourself, they just push through the firewall. You shouldn't have to take it anywhere, let alone a dealership. If you really had to, I don't think any mechanic would charge more than an hour's labor.

I have an extra hood/latch kit that I would sell you for $20 delivered. Please send me a PM if you need it.

Both cables are fine, just the handle seems to be the problem. I disconnected both cables from the handle and the handle does not look broke in any place. What does the handle connect to? As of now, both cables are hanging in my car about 1 inch from the handle spot. The handle is in the glove box for now. I just pull on both cables with my hand and the hood opens great .

I had this problem and It's not to difficult to fix it. Over time the hinge pin will work it's way out, so I replaced the pin with an appropiate size bolt and nut and It's worked fine ever since.
