I have heard that it is possible to change the driver side headlight bushings without actually taking the light assembly from the hood. Anyone tried this and if so are there instructions available? Thanks!
You can do it, but it's too easy to remove the whole headlight assembly, therefore making it a lot easier to replace the bushings. My advice is to take out the assembly. It will also save your back.

You'll want to remove it being that it's much easier. I used a Black and Decker drill to speed up the process. It's 8 screws and unplug the light. This is actually the easiest part of the project but and you can also use a drill on the hex screws too. Once you start tearing into it be sure to not touch any of the paint because if you do those finger prints are there. Had to get my painted to remove them. You might as well replace the gear while your in there because if it’s old you’ll be doing this project again in 3 months.

theres no reason not to remove them, only like 6-8 bolts I think, and it will make it so much easier.
too bad that write up is not for the older c4s i took mine apart because it wouldnt go up ot down, my gears are all fine, i cleaned the contacts up and put it back in and now it will go up but not back down, i have no clue how to fix it.

Huh? the only difference is the motor......
I chronicled the older style for you in that thread. Yes the post starts out speaking of later models but that does not mean the early models were left out.
The older motor has no bushings, only gears that wear out...that and the only thing (usually) that wears is the large white gear. (open up the motor and there is no way to miss-interpret what larger white gear means)
Yours?? if the motor is worn out, that is a different issue than 98% of the usual troubles with the headlights.
thats what i said, ( my gear is fine) it will go up but not down, it used to not do either till i took it apart, the problem is somewhere where it reverses the polarity to make the motor reverse to go back down, and im not sure on what does that. i see some contacts in there but im dont know if mine are good or not

I completely agree. I just did this one. Taking the light off the car is nothing. Taking the motor apart afterward is infuriating. I can't imagine trying to do that bent over my wheel.
I'm in the process of fixing pretty much the same problem, My light would go up (about half ways then stop). I tore it apart and the gears where all good (looked new and motor had been apart) but the magnet in the motor was lose on one side. I JB-weilded it back in place, reassembled and put back in. Now it only goes down, but not up. The motor has a plastic nub that sits down in between some leaf switchs (look like an old set of points) this is how the motor knows its up, or down and shuts off. Mine currently doesnt know its down so the motor clicks, tries to lower and shuts off and retries. I am assuming that the contacts are dirty or I didnt get the plastic nub lined up correctly. I am hopefully going to work on it tonight again (sucks to not drive in the late evening) If I do I will try get some pictures to show you. I have been working on Fiero pop up headlights and they are different, but same idea. So hopefully I know what I'm doing and can solve it, will let you know.
