Default oil puddle

1 have a 94 when the engine is running no leak.when i shut it off after 10 minutes it starts dripping.i noticed there is oil around the oil plug.tightened plug about half a turn but it still leaks.i was just wondering if it would be leaking some where else and then on to the oil plug.any help would be greatly appreciated

If you can squeeze under there enough, take paper towel or a rag and wipe around the oil pan, where the trans and engine meet, etc. Also look closely at teh valve covers. There's numerous places the engine can leak causing oil to run down to the lowest point, which happens to be be drain plug. It could also simply be the dipstick tube not being secure to the pan. If you wipe it clean and don't see any place oil is coming from then I'd replace the plug, new ones with a new nylon washer are available for about $8 at your local parts store.

Also check the oil filter. I've had one not seated properly (the rubber seal was cockeyed) eventually causing a mess.

I have a feeling thats whats wrong with mine right now cause I cant figure out where my leak is coming from and the oil filter is covered in oil. I thought coating the seal in fresh oil was supposed to prevent that from happening.

I guess anything can happen. Also, if it's only dripping, you may just not want to worry about it. Next oil change, be sure it's seated right and oiled, and maybe it will go away. If not, it's only a drip. I replaced my drain plug with a ball-valve to make oil changes easier, and it now drips oil, but the amount is negligible, so I don't worry about it.
