I was just looking at the "Used Corvettes for Sale" web page. It is amazing the errors that people put in there either with intent or stupidity to describe their cars. One 1996 LT4 Vert was listed as one of only 75 produced and very rare "it was red" another listed a 1996 LT4 CE and described the 330 HP and LT4 options. It had an auto trans and the interior photo showed the auto.
Also the prices were outrageous.
I learned a long time ago that some people buy Vettes for the Status of the Label. They don’t know anything about the history nor do they care to learn. They just feel that they have a “Corvette” and that they should be respected. When it’s time to sell or talk Vettes, that fact is reflected in their knowledge.
I don’t know every detail, but I’m willing to learn.
Some of those posts that are "mistakes" may not be written as mistakes. For example, just because an owner writes rare and it's not, you or anyone else should not think or believe that what he wrote was inadvertent or written due to ignorance. There's an excellent probability that the owner knew what he was writing was in error. If you didn't know that it wasn't rare or weren't familiar with Corvettes, wouldn't it be "normal" to believe that the car listed as rare was in fact rare when in actuality it was not? I hope that all makes sense.
My car was advertised in Autotrader as having 375hp PO had added up 'advertised gains' from the minor mods that had been done. Luckily I'd done enough research in this very place to know what I was really looking at and bought it anyway...
I have to add my story to this. I called on a "ZR-1"...well needless to say it was not a ZR-1. I told the person it was not a ZR-1 and instead of removing the info all together, they change it to "like ZR-1 body style".. I was amazed. Buyer beware and be informed!
