I know I'll get crap for this statement, but here goes. I like the 'Vette. But you're right. It's boring. How many white late model C-4's do you see with chrome ZR-1's on it? It gets good gas milage and it's dependable. This is by no means the definition of a hotrod for me. When a hotrod pulls up to a car parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot, it must shake the earth enough to make the parked car's tach register 500 rpms.
This is exactly why I have a 68 Chevelle and my wife has a 454 powered 79 Camaro, and a 454 powered 73 Chevy pick up. I have almost $14K in the engine alone in my Chevelle. It'll take another $8K to finish it. It should put out around 1,100 h.p. with 30 psi of boost from the 14-71 Kobelco blower.
What will I do with such power? Rattle the tachs out of a few Corvettes at the local Wal-Mart!
P.S. I'm looking for mid to low 9's with the Chevelle. I bet that car gets more looks than my 'Vette.
Street cred = $$$. Just drive it for what it is. The Corvette does what it was built to do beautifully. People who can beat you know that already. Wave and drive on. Or get a 383 stroker and supercharge it, add a little beef to the tranny and rear end and go have some breakfast. The sleepier the better.
I feel you, but I really don't wanna be upside down.
I can't fault you for wanting a "true muscle car" but what do you expect to do with it, answer the challenge of every boy racer you come across? With their skinny tires, drum brakes and buckboard suspensions those cars are a bear to drive and handle like sh*t. Don't be fooled by the numbers, the muscle cars of the 60s were rated using gross horsepower, your 87 with 240 hp is pretty close to what the MCs had in true horsepower and with a few mods will beat most any 60s era car.
HUH!? What decade are you living in?!
Most of those cars were converted to four wheel disc brakes 15-20 years ago. Buck board suspensions? Have you ridden in your 'Vette lately? A Chevelle or Impala suspension, bone stock, rides like a Cadillac next to your 'Vette. Bear to drive? You obviously haven't been in one for REALLY long time. I don't think they drive much differant than a modern rear drive car. Again, I dare you to find a car that has the original 300 horse 327 in it. Most of the cars left have high cube strokers in them. And yes, you can find what ever you want for $20K if you shop around. It won't be a real SS, but what wrong with a clone?
I didn't mean to go off like this, but your post may mislead someone into thinking all musclecars are pristine restored six cylenders.
P.S. This was my daily driver until the gas prices went nuts. I have a slightly differant idea of "daily driver"

My 96 stock LT1 is fast enough for me at 300hp. When I hit the gas the car goes sideways then it takes off like a rocket.
Boring to drive? I never get that feeling in my 96. I would either keep the 87 and do some of the mods listed here or sell the 87 and buy a 96 but I'm a little bias there!
I can tell by this reaction that you should sell the vette and get a muscle car.
Nah, I love Vettes. I always have. I guess I just want both worlds, the style and class of a C4 with the raw power of a BB. I would love to own a 67', 68' or 69' BB Vette but my pockets are just not that deep.
C5 and C6's just don't trip my trigger, like the C4's that they mimic.
hummm...don't like the c4, 5 or 6...but then you say you love vettes...then you say they are not fast enough...I'm confused. I say just sell it and call it a day then.
Did you have a specific muscle car in mind? Certain muscle cars will only appreciate in value while only specific C4's will as well. I don't know if any of the non-special C4's will ever be worth lots of money, like the older Vettes, but the C4's certainly do stand out and can be modified to whatever extent you're willing to do or whatever your wallet can take.
If you have a non-special C4 like me, and you're not happy with the power, why not put some money into it and make it what you want? That's what I did. My 85 now puts out 500HP and TQ and will handle as well as any new Vette. Granted, mine has been modified in every respect; engine, transmission, suspension, etc., but if you like your Vette, keep it. Just make it go faster.
An older muscle car will probably be faster than your Vette, but I'm telling you that you will be sorry you sold it. You will without a doubt have sellers remorse.
