Yeah when the C5 came out they made rumors of an economy Vette. V6, cloth interior, dirt cheap. But I think then they knew the Camaro was going out and was going to get those buyers into corvettes. Luckily they never did it, and I'm sure they never will (I'm using never loosely here).
LOL, that new V6 Camaro will have 95 more HP than my 350 V8 Corvette (1984).
Still the V6 will never have the same feel as the V8 Corvette. I have an 07 CTS with the 3.6 V6 (255 HP) and it's a bit lethargic until you get the revs up. And the 07 CTS is lighter than the new Camaro.
v6's may have come a long way since I was a kid in the 70-80's, but it's got no right in a Vette. Wrong kind of rumble!
I also believe that if you don't like what's on the radio or tv; turn the dial or change the channel.
I simply wouldn't buy one. I'm not impressed with engineers these days. How's about a dose of cylinder deactivation instead. Then we can bitch and moan about it being a 4-banger instead.
According to the last Union contract the Solstice, Sky, Opel GT production is to move to the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green in the next couple years so some of this make sense...maybe a base model based on this chassis...who knows???
I say GM ought to throw in their 572, supercharge it, and make the Corvette a 900 hp rocket ship. They can make all of their other vehicles electric, so even at 12 mpg, their CAFE requirement will still be met. Since GM's goin in the drink anyway, they might as well make the Corvette to end all Corvettes
A flat-6 or horizontally-opposed-6 is a flat engine with six cylinders arranged horizontally in two banks of three cylinders on each side of a central crankcase. The pistons are mounted to the crankshaft such that opposing pistons move back and forth in opposite directions at the same time, somewhat like a boxing competitor punching their gloves together before a fight, which has led to it being referred to as a boxer engine.
The configuration results in inherently good balance of the reciprocating parts, a low center of gravity, and a very short engine length. The layout also lends itself to efficient air cooling. However, it is an intrinsically expensive design to manufacture, and somewhat too wide for compact automobile engine compartments, which makes it more suitable for luxury sports cars, cruising motorcycles, and aircraft than ordinary passenger cars.

i heard it was suppost to be based on the soltice platform with a turbo charged V6
Yep,and if Toyota is at the helm (considering GM don't come out of the nose dive) the Corvette will cease to exists as we knew it for the last 55 years. Looking at the XLR was almost to much to take sharing a platform with Americas Icon. Building a Sky,Solice Corvette would be the ultimate insult to Corvette enthusiasts.
