Can someone tell me what I'm missing here? If you go into the forum mall, LAPD has the Hella high intensity headlight conversion kits for the 129 bucks... if you go into MAD's catalog.. they have the same thing for 79.99.. but it doesn't specify that it's Hella. is one better then the other? I have a credit at MAD and was thinging of getting the lights from them...
Re: Headlight conversion... what am I missing here? (Springer's 95)
MAD sells the hellas... so does Ecklers. I got mine from MAD for Christmas! And they ROCK!!!
I have no idea if they sell more than one brand, tho...
LAPD is having problems with supply, tho... Scorp said they have a 10 day wait!!! The biggest difference is that LAPD includes APC Xenon Gas bulbs. Scorp can give you an opinion of them.

WHOA!!!! I never said anything about a 10 day wait. I said that they had been having so many orders that they haven't been able to keep them in stock, but do ship them out SUPER fast once they are in.
The Hella's that you see for $79 or so do not include the APC Xenon Plasma H4 bulbs which are in the area of $30 per bulb by themselves. These bulbs are 90W low beam and 130W high beam (yet use the normal amount of power). The APC bulbs are great in combination with the Hellas.
I have a crazy amount of lighting which at the same time does NOT blind oncoming drivers. On the highway you will find people will tag along beside you or behind you during inclement weather because the light pattern cuts through and under most of it.
The "H4" in the bulb name means that it is a single dual stage bulbs. The one bulb does both high and low beam. This is what the C4 requires unlike all other corvettes which use two bulbs per side for high/low beams.
Scorp, this may sound like a foolish question but if you buy the light assemblys mentioned and the bulb goes out, do you have to order a replacement bulb or is the bulb the same type you find in your local AutoZone? I know it would be foolish having a regular type bulb with one of those high power bulbs in the other light but can you do this temporarily till a new high power bulb comes in?
I am fixing to order a set per your recommendation and was wondering if I need to order spares for "just in case". These stock lights just don't provide enough light when driving highway speeds at night. Especially down here on 2 lane winding roads with all the wildlife crossing the highways
......but can you do this temporarily till a new high power bulb comes in?
Yup, you can no problem. The kit LAPD sells actually HAS a set of better bulbs in the Hella headlamp units. They also send you the pair of APC bulbs in their own off the shelf box. The APCs are just better than the better ones you also get. :) So you get 2 sets of bulbs with the kit.
Are the APC lights you got the ones that are have the blue tinted glass? I got those a while back and think that the Hella Xenon white light better, at least to me.
I admit that I ordered my Hella's through Susquehanna Motorsports and have been very happy with them. I have ordered stuff from LAPD also, and was happy with them.

Yup. I found to me the slight blueish tint made reading things license plates and highway signs at night easier. Things just seems a bit sharper, with the white bulbs making reflection back more of an issue.

OOPS!!!! your right I'm wrong!!! I got mixxed up between that other post... I put words to your keys that others said in the thread... my bad...
I like the basic hella conversion. It is MUCH improved over the standard sealed beams. Greatly improved!!!
The odd thing.. my bulb is and HB2 or something like that... any ideas what that means???
