Has anyone noticed that the C4 prices are gaining on the C5 prices? We own both, our C5 is a 1998 with about 74000 miles and we are having trouble getting even $14,500 for it (in great shape). Yet I see C4's on here listed for $17,000+?
I dont know that C4s are going up but C5s are getting older, getting some miles on them so they are really dropping in price which is a good thing, easier to move up if you want.

A low mileage C4 in excellent condition certainly can be worth more than an average C5 with high mileage. I think most of the early C4's have already bottomed out with nowhere left to go but up if they are nice. The C5's are still searching for bottom.

Remember when nobody wanted a 76 to 82 C3? They were slow in stock form,
Rode hard, and Always needed repairs. And you could pick one up for about 5 grand. Maybe less if paint was in need. Well have you priced a C3 lately? Humm the 5 grand days are through Maybe you will pay double that now. How about those early C4s. The ones many turn their noses up to and claim if you pay more than four Grand for a early C4 you got taken. Some even consider crossfire versions is only useful for the scrap yard giving more value to late 80s High School kids 5.0. Mustangs. Something happens to Corvettes when they turn 25 years old IMO.Magically the prices seem to rise. And when they rise they stay that way. Thats the Corvette market. Its been that way since the beginning.
I have been looking at vettes a long time (dreamer mostly), i can remeber looking at mid 60's for under 10. They seem to get to that 5 grand area for a ok/avg car with about 100,000 miles sometime in there lives (15ish years old). C4's seem to be in that area right now. The C5's will get there too, it will just take time. They all seem to bottom out then slowly start to rise. But i must agree, gas has changed some of that. And the newer ones have alot more technology in them so I think that will make the bottom out price higher.
C4's haven't bottomed yet but are getting closer. A $15K C5 is an amazing deal IMO. I find it hilarious the amount of bitching, moaning, talking, complaining, and general worrying that goes on with the value of C4's, as if some magical day they will all be worth 10 times what we paid for them and we will ALL be able to sell them at Barrett Jackson for $2.5 million.
I wouldn't pay $5K for a C3 if I could, especially after 71...
I don't really see what gas price has to do with C5 resale, they get good mileage-unless people are selling them because they can't afford to make the other monthly payments so are selling the toy...
Well I know my 87 is avg 23.4 MPG right now (reset, and about 400 miles of town driving) I havent been driving it hard at all, alwasy in 4th and OD, I sorta putt around and just enjoy the car. I think people (I know I did before owning one) think vettes do bad on gas, that is where i was assuming that gas may change prices thing. As for hopeing they are worth something someday, meh.. I wont care (unless im hungry and jobless, but I wouldnt complain if prices rose), I wont be selling my beater ever, I may upgrade someday to a nicer one, but I wont be getting rid of my first one... I mean its a lifelong dream lthat took 20 years to make reality. Its going to alwasy be my "first".
Only time will tell on prices. Im just glad they are cheap right now, or I wouldnt be able to own one.

Maybe it is just the Utah market. I couldnt believe it either but we are getting little to no interest with it priced at $15,000.
also remember that there are MANY more c5s out there than the c4s. Even though the c5 is a better car all around, those that are selling them have a lot to compete against in the auto traders which drives the prices lower.

Clok
I agree to a point.
I get a lot of people wondering how I can afford to run mine and even when you tell them, I really don't think they believe me. But for most people who can afford these cars, I don't think gas prices are the major issue.
I think it's a like a double edge sword, high gas prices yes, but more blame would be the flat American economy. "Luxury" items are the first things to take a hit.
High gas prices are here to stay and the American economy will not be flat for long.
