Default Paint type for C4

I'm gonna get some paint work done on my C4 as I scrapped the rear bumper a little. I'm gonna get a tech school to paint it. So I only have to pay for the paint. I don't know if I'll do the whole car or just the rear bumper.

What type of paint is recommended for the C4? I plan on going with Dupont, and I don't know if a certain type of primer and clearcoat is needed?

I've heard that a special flexible additive is needed for the base coat to prevent cracking?

And if you know of any places online that might be selling paint cheaper than a local paint shop, let me know.

Thanks

Bump. Anyone know if there is a certain type of primer/base/clear coat by Dupont needed for a Corvette?

Will just regular Dupont stuff work fine that the paint store will pull up on their computers?

For the bumper I used a water based primer (flows really well) but, any primer will do. I don't like to use Flex Additive because it changes the color slightly.

If you're having the entire vehicle painted, I used a polyester primer for all the panels too prevent check marks in the SMC from reappearing even after sanding.

The Paint/Body section on the forum has a lot of great information. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=138

Do the whole car. I had a poly basecoat done at Maaco for under $1000 and, besides a little overspray, it turned out great.

If I was going to keep it, I would paint the whole thing. It is black. I'm already out over $1000 if I sell it for what I paid for it, which I doubt, $12K. So, I really don't want to throw $600+ down the toilet. So I'll probably just get the rear bumper painted and some other items. Or do you guys know of a cheap place online to get Dupont paint?

I was basically needing to know if any special primer, base, or clearcoat is needed for a fiberglass Corvette? Or if just whatever the paint suppler pulls up on his computer would work just fine at Dupont?

Though, I wouldn't mind to know how much paint is needed to do the whole car.

Ok, thanks. I've never noticed that section. I've always just gone to C4.
