Default Deck lid Protector

Bought the static cling deck lid protector for the wifes 89 vert, from Eckler's. Installed, then read the instructions like any real guy. Last line states "It is recommended to REMOVE THE PROTECTOR WHEN DRIVING WITH THE TOP DOWN." WTF good is that? Anybody buy this thing? Do you remove every time you take the top down? or Will it stay on at highway speeds?

Thanks

Wow... I was considering getting one as I am always cleaning the lid when I wash the car, or put down the convertible top.

Waste of good money. I went with the clear bra material and it really protects the paint. I also have a hard top and it protects with it on.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing here, but when I got my vert, there was already a narrow piece of static cling plastic that was/is under the area of the top that touches the deck, when the top is up. It does not cover all the painted area. I was assuming that it was to keep the rubber from the top from getting on the deck and scuffing it? I never have taken it off (perhaps ignorance is bliss) and have spent more time driving with the top down than up, without any problems. I just wash over it, have not taken it up to wash or wax underneath it.

I have one because I have a pologreen car and it will show up if it wears so I put it on when the top is up otherwise roll up and put in consle or in storage compartment! but it is better than scratches and scuffs that can come eventually!

Have never taken mine off and not sure if it would come off now, it appears to be stuck down really good.

Havn't even opened mine out of the packet... Looks cheap & nasty.... When I repaint I may consider using it...

Mines been on since 2004 when I bought the car. I never bothered to take it off. It probably needs to be replaced. It's a little torn up after many years of use. I wonder how hard it will be to get off.

I believe some folks are talking apples and oranges. On my 95 there is a Factory installed protector that is bonded to the car. I bought a cling on protector to install underneath the hardtop (since the vert top and the hard top contact different places at the rear) Long story short I left it on for about a year (winter and then trip to the sandbox) and the aftermarket cling on protector yellowed, cracked, and stuck to the decklid in places. The capper is it discolored my paint. I would not install one of those POS's and leave it on for an extended period.

I got mine from Mid-America. $25.00 for a static cling. I have always removed it when I put the top down. Only problem, after a short period of time, it wants to shrivel up. You have to keep it flattened out when not on the car.

I found a good detail man that has a clear adhesive plastic that is just like the original from the factory. He said that he can make it look factory.

I just need to find the time to schedule it.
