Default how much coolant??

i am going to go by some coolant tomorrow and i have never changed it. does anyone know about how many gallons to get? im going to have my mechanic flush the old stuff out and put all new in. he told me it would be cheaper for me to just get the coolant at the store and then he would just charge labor.. thanks in advance.

6 quarts of Dexcool

Fill the rest of the way with water. 50/50 or 50/60 is the recommended ratio coolant to water.

As long as you get 6 qts of Dexcool in you're good to go.

It's best to use distilled water. Not just water out of your garden hose.

Default coolant

Best way to go is buy the Dexcool already mixed 50/50 and you're done. no mess, no guess.

This is a good idea.

I mix it 70/30, it gets hot around here and never had an issue.

Isnt Dexcool the orange coolant? If it is I thought you can't mix that with Green or it will jel up.

I also thought I read somewhere that GM started with Dexcool in 1995.

Am I wrong?

The green should be used on earlier vettes. They started to change to dexcool mid 95.Some 95's have green from factory and some have the orange dexcool. The new prestone said that it is compatible with the orange. My 95 came with orange but I flushed it many times to refill with the green. I dont know how true the class action suit is against dexcool but if you google dexcool you will read all about it.I believe imo that if you change dexcool every year or 2 you will not have any problems.

I am curious how you go about mixing the 50/60 ratio?
