Wow, thanks! That's VERY helpful.

Your contact said "This pad is on the rear shelf of the block behind the left bank." which sounds as tho you can see it from above (ie, at the rear of the engine compartment) rather than from under the car. Is that your take on what was meant?

Again, thanks a million!

Yes, viewed from up top, but VERY HARD to see. You will probably have to move some stuff to see it.

Good luck

Strange that the FSM shows the VIN at the right front when it's actually at the left rear.

I've searched and I've searched but I can't find the pad even tho I feel I've moved everything and explored everywhere. Perhaps if the thumbnail of the pad you were kind enough to send me was a little wider shot so I could see the approximate location but 2 hours of looking hasn't yet uncovered the pad. (But many thanks!)

And the answer is - thanks to 94z07fx3's amazing YouTube video (see the last C4 go down the line at Bowling Green at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YII-h...1&p=1566770806) which pointed me toward where to look - I found the engine VIN and it is the original engine. Many thanks also to everyone else who helped along the way.
