Getting close to end of fixing small problems with interior and upkeep since buying 94 coupe month ago and wonder about programing chip. Since 94 has soder in chip will need to reprogram -- is it worth it (power ect) and which one to get and how hard is it? Also car is running fine but have heard that changing plugs, opti, ect will increase power even if computer does not show problem. 94000 miles. just doing research and do not want to chase my tail...
want to get the most bang for the buck... thanks terry... tbmoore@cableone.net
Unless you want to change out the T-stat for a 160 deg one, I'd save your cash if the car is otherwise 100% stock. Lots of small things you can do that are free or near free to get a little power out of the car.
On a stock car, the Hypertech Power programmer might be the way to go if you choose to do it, just plug it in and push yes or no to the different options it offers for your car.
cut open air cleaner lid (free = more air flow)
bypass thottle body coolng lines (10 bucks = cooler intake air into engine)
install 160 deg T-stat (20 bucks =cooler engine makes more power)
install a manual fan switch to turn on the fans sooner
cut back spark plug electrodes
Install a K&N air filter. 60 bucks, but resuable and = more air flow.
It can do quite a bit... if used in conjuction with a 160 deg t-stat, it will allow you to program the fans to come on sooner, adjust rev limiter and shift points/firmness, reprogram the timing and adjust the speedo if you ever change rear end gears. Not worth a bunch of power.. but things start to add up.
