Default its to hot

i live in deep texas and during the day my engine has been getting to hot. i know they run hot but it goes al the way to the slash marks, almost everytime i stop at a light. So i have to pull over and let it cool down. is it better to get a better radiator or what else are my options? anyone know?

When was the last time you cleaned the debris out from the front of the radiator?

Are you going by the digital or analog temp gauge? They are fed by different senders and do have different readings. Also is the check gauges light coming on? My car regularly goes into the hash marks and it looks like it is up to 260 by the analog gauge and the digital will only read 220 which is normal for our cars. Hope this helps.

Have you checked your cooling fans? If you jump a wire on the diagnostic plug and turn the ignition key to ON both the cooling fans should come on. This only takes about five minutes. The check is to make sure the relays and fans work.

There is no digital dash readout on a 90, as far as I know. To verify on mine, I use the C68 HVAC readout to doublecheck my dash gage. You push and hold both fan buttons until -00 shows, then use the right button to scroll to -16. Push 'Auto" and this will give the sensor reading in Celcius. If you're sharp, do the conversion in your head. If you're dim-witted like me, you have to look it up.

What info comes up when you push the gauges button? I thought you could see all the gauges digitally except tach and oil press.

The 90 was the first year for the dash redesign and did not, to my knowledge, have these features.
If they are available, they've remained hidden for the 1 1/2 years I've had the car. Of course, there was no owners manual when I bought it, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised when someone tells me that function IS on a 90.

I believe all vettes since 84 have had a digital temp readout. Is there a button marked gauges to the right of your steering wheel?
