Putty knife anyone?

that timing chain cover is leaking. Check those 10mm bolts. You'll find them all loose. Don't kill them tightening however, they are kinda small.

WD40 or some other solvent

I bought a new water pump at autozone, had it in a day. You should really change it, I doubt it's the 2 gaskets...........also make sure you put the heater hose on the pump before you put the ac back on, I forgot about that dam hose and had to rip it all apart again.....think, think, think.....

5. Install cover-to-oil pan seal, lightly coat bottom of seal with engine oil, and position cover over crackshaft end.
6. Loosely install cover-to-block upper attaching screws.
7. Tighten screws alternately and evenly while pressing downward on the cover so that the dowels in the block are aligned with the corresponding holes in the cover. Position cover so that the dowels enter the holes in the cover without binding. Do not force cover over dowels so that the cover flange or holes are distorted.
8. Install remaining covers screws and torque to specifications

Thank you. After Fay last night I needed a laugh this AM. replacing a timing chain cover without dropping the pan is one small step removed from doing the heater core. Our FSM missed the target on this one.

The water pump was a piece of cake on my '85, the timing chain not so much. Half the work is removing all that emissions BS which i'd already removed from mine

The only thing I can add is buy the water pump gaskets even though they come in the kit. the ones with the kit are made out of paper and suck. the single ones are made out of some composite material. Just my 2 cents.

At 47,500 miles the timing chain would be about the last thing I would touch.

It does not have a rubber belt that goes out every 60,000 miles.

Just do the water pump, at 47K miles I think that your timing chain will be OK

Everyone has an opinion and this is just mine
