My brother just got home with his '90 vert(I'm jealous as hell It's a very nice car).
Anyway, the driver side headlight doesn't deploy properly. Before everyone jumps on the bushing bandwagon, I don't think that's the problem.
If you make sure that this linkage is in the proper location....
...it work's fine, but the linkage is loose no matter where it is at. In the sticky above, I have read of some wafer thin shims....Could they be missing?
The linkage is sloppy and will flop around. The bushing are garbage and will need to be replaced.I just got mine back together and this was on a 91 ZR-1 with 6000 miles. The bushings were powder and affected everything all the way back into the motor and bearings. If you do take it apart to replace the bushings make sure everything is in the correct position,it really easy to get the thing 180 degrees out.The shimms are in the gearbox, not on the outside.
I'm thinking the previous owner has already changed the bushings. I will check to make sure. That linkage is sloppy on the drivers side only. The passenger side is tight. I'll ask again....is this where the wafer thin shims go?
There will be some play in the linkage. If its too tight I would look into that.I just got mine back in car yesterday. It is a pain in the *** if you get them out of whack.I was amazed at how the original bushings turned into powder.

Once again, the shimms go on the INSIDE of the gearbox. In your picture the arrow is pointing to one of the stops. This will rotate freely until it comes in contact with the tab or the pin. What the thing doing anyway?
Yeah, mine linkage is floppy too. The driver's side is worse than the passenger side. There aren't any shims, but you do have to make sure the center shaft is aligned right.
I also had to jb weld the center shaft in the motor on my driver's side headlight. It would free spin even with brand new bushings and a bronze gear.
This is the part that spins around. Not 360 degrees, but quite a ways.
The one on the pass side doesn't rotate.
If I spin it around to be like the passenger side, the light will open. However, It will not close, and the bracket will be loose again. I haven't tried putting it in the same position as the pass side and closing them.
nitronick, I hope you don't mine my asking a similar question on your thread.
What causes the headlight (drivers side) to make a loud clacking noise? I just recently figured out what is making that noise. It's done this several times, even if the headlights are not being used. Upon opening last time I used the headlights, it did this banging sound so I turned them off and it did teh same thing closing. So I turned them on & off a few times to make it stop. What can I do to fix this?
Time to replace your bushings. I highly recommend upgrading to the bronze gears as well...you should also do both at the same time. It's more for convenience though. http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette?frame=3.853
