C4 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
If you use the search function you'll find that this question has already been answered.
You need to get yourself a Polo Green C4 as they have proven to be the most reliable
Mine is my only vehicle, I drive it 7 days a week year round. It has never left me stranded.

It's generally understood that the newer the better in terms of reliability. Especially 95-96 with the vented opti on the LT1/4. BTW, my 1996 has 163k on it, and it runs very well. Still pulls strong and has surprised a Mustang or two.

They're all old cars. The one that's been maintained the best.

IMO, I'd have to say a "91" Vette is very dependable especially if the injectors are replaced with the Bosch III design.
No Opti, MAF sensor, Keyless Entry or early Digi Dash to repair.

The newer the better 96 for sure, most of the bugs were worked out by then.

Early C4s have less to go wrong.
After I owned my 1988 for 1 year, I had worked out all the "bugs of neglect" from the previous owner.
Now I have driven it for 3 trouble free years.
I would think that any C4 that was well maintained would be very reliable.
Even the notorious 4+3 manual/automatic transmission is very reliable if always maintained properly.

There is no real answer to this question. It's all in the maintenance and ownership.

84 vette is the most reliable, doesn't have all that gimiky crap on it like a TPI or a LT1/4 opti
. 84 didn't have ABS brakes damn speed sensors

Are you talking Dependable as in "not going to strand me on the dark lonely road" or they "constant weekend project" type of dependable?
For the things that will strand you, I think they are all pretty much the same, except a better condition car will always be better. The 84's and 85's didn't have VATS, so they won't strand you for that reason and the L98 cars don't have the opti, although it seems that the opti gives plenty of warning before it goes. I think this is really splitting hairs though, these cars are basic small block chevys and I think are really durable, easily good for 200k with a modest amount of care. Much better for the long haul than the C3's.
As far as things that need attention, like floppy door panels and leaky weatherstrip and power window ribbons and all of those types of things, there is a simple rule of thumb, newer is better. I am sure you realize though that an older well cared for car will be more dependable than a newer abused car
