Hey guys, this is now my first winter with my vette, and I think it is now time to put her away for the winter, what should I do, please help, I have no Idea!
thanks
jim
btw, right now she in the garage covered, no clue what else!
fill your tires to max pressure listed on the sides. It would be advisable to put her up on jackstands if you could, i think making the frame hold it up would also be easier on your springs too.
Definitely cover it or put some of those moisture absorbing bags inside to eat up mildew.
Fill up the gas tank, condensation cant form if there isnt enough air inside. But ive heard alot of people who put gas additives in for winter, i dont do that down here but it may be advisable for you. When you do start her up for spring just make sure and run that tank out quick.
Check this out it may help you. I found this on the web and put it on my web page because of all the good info. It also has a checklist link at the bottom of tha page..
Change the oil and filter, grease all the fittings, add a can of fuel stabilizer first and then fill the tank up. Make sure the coolant is good so it will protect the engine from freeze damage. Check the window wash fluid too so it wont freeze and damage the little pump or the lines. You might even want to remove the wipers or lift them off the window so they dont flatten out. Put the tire pressures to max (see the tire sidewall for info). Give it a good wash and dry and vac the interior. Remove anything that might attract little critters. Buy a battery "maintainer" (available at Wal-Mart for $30.00), it will keep the battery up to charge but wont over charge or boil it dry. Get yourself a panel of the 2" thick high density "Blue Styro-Foam SM" house insulation and cut it into 4 pieces. Park the car on the 4 panels, this will prevent the tires from flatspotting because the foam crushes slightly to match the curvature of the tire AND it saves all the grief of trying to jack the car up. Moisture packs for the interior might be necessary, depending on what your winters are like. Moth *****/ dryer sheets/ Irish spring soap etc have been used to repel mice:smash: if they are a problem in your area and steel wool in the exhaust pipes will keep them from nesting in the mufflers. Hope this helps.
