Default C4 Maintenance Poll

Of the total amount of regular upkeep, maintenance, modifications and work your C4 requires, what amount of repairs do you do yourself verses having a mechanic or other professional do it for you?

So far I have done everything myself - water pump, opti, plugs, wires, headers, shocks, shifter, hoses, belt, brakes, fuel injectors & filter, repaired A/C vent problem, new valve cover gaskets, buffed out paint, and regular fluid changes. The only work I have paid for is to have my header pipes welded to the resonator. I would likely not tackle any internal engine issues, as they're beyond my meager expertise - hopefully there won't be any for a long, long time.

Default No problem

I will do it all to keep these so called mechanics out of my car. I can paint and chew gum at the same time. I feel uncomfortable when a chevy dealership ran out to a tow truck telling the driver i have a box of parts that belong to your motor maybe you can figure ouy where they go.That is a true happening one day in my life if 63 years. How about the one chevy dealer that said your wife okayed the work ,I never paid that bill, and i use to sit at church next to the father who turned that dealer ship over to his son who wonders why the Hondas out sell Chevys. Need i say more.

I know my limits and if it is something like performing an alignment or balancing tires or new paint I have those things done professionally. However, I have taken over most routine maintenance and repairs and I do everything I can myself to save money. A lot of it I find rather enjoyable. I had to begin a new thread with the poll itself because it timed out on me.

Done it all myself so far.

I'm having a friend off the forum help me tune the car once I get the blower installed.

The only thing I will not do is a trans rebuild. Did one a long time ago and its not something I like to do.

With no garage I do nothing "under the car" like exhaust, A4 and such; everything else I attend.
Recently upholstered the seats and just finished new pads & rotors around to address a pulsing pedal.
