i had the gears changed in my 95 from 2.59 to 3.73 in june. i have put about a 1k on the car since the install i recently have noticed a noise coming from the rear of the car but only when i turn the wheel left or right and usually only on sharpe turns .also it only happens really when i have driving that car for atleast 20 mins doesnt do it when the car is cold. if iam describing the sound to you i would say it sounds like a set of drum brake squeal, but its not a high pitched noise at all . there is no different feel in the rear end or grinding at all when this is happening at all . anyone have this happen or head this after having a new gear installed? thanks in advance
Hi Rob, my '90 experienced the exact same issue. If I drove mine for about 10 minutes any time I turned it I was getting this weird sound. (I believe you should have a Dana 44 as well.) It turned out my posi clutches were worn and a few other things in the rear end as well.
Replaced and everything is fine for now.
Jim i have 36 in my car not sure if that really makes a difference.. what stinks is i just paid a shop 1300.00 for the gear swap and i even supplied the parts. now i have to probably shell out all that labor all over again.
Rob, I think some of the internals between the 36 and 44 are the same.
Now I don't know for sure if this is true, but where I took mine (a well respected Corvette shop) told me that the Dana 44 in a Vette requires a little different set up than just a normal GM car. He says he has seen numerous times where a Vette has been into a shop or dealer where they don't know these cars and have problems down the road. I'm no expert in this, but all I can tell you mine seems 100% better.
