Default WheelSkins Installation pointers

Hey I just recieved my wheelskins steering wheel cover, Euro Style. Does anyone have any installation pointers for me before I get started in the morning?

I must to say the cover is made out of some really soft & nice feeling leather and the colors match perfect in my car. :yesnod: I just hope it feels as good on the steering wheel as it does out of the box.

Boots,

First thing I recommend is either wear a glove or do what I do and tape up your pinky and ring fingers on the hand you'll pull the thread with. You want to pull the stitches very tight and the thread will cut your finger (s) if you aren't carefull. Second, make sure that if you skip a hole or holes (around the spokes) on the front, make sure you skip the exact amount of holes on the back. If you don't, the holes won't line up when you get to the end and you'll have to pull the thread out and start over (:cuss ). Whatever you do, take your time and do it right the first time, expect to spend 45 minutes to an hour. Post a pic or two when you get it done.

Have fun!

I don't have one, but you ought to try a herringbone stitch......
Just look at a baseball to see what's going on there. It would look a LOT more
professional. :seeya

Boots,
Wheelskins are great. I've had one on the '86 for about 2 years now. The tape on the pinkie is a good idea. I did not have to skip any holes. The wheelskin was exactly made for the steering wheel. By euro style does that mean the two tone one? I have been thinking about the yellow and black for the '96.

I took me about an 1 1/4 hours to complete my euro-skin. Looks geat and is soft. The instructions, I believe, instill in you "tight is right" -thats sound advice.

I didn't experience and cuts on my fingers however, my arms were fatigued from the repetitive motion of pulling the thread.

The kit comes with plenty of thread to tie off both ends when completed, at least 8"-10" per end.

Is the Wheelskin meant to go over the factory cover or in place of it?

Its meant to go over the factory steering wheel, and the euro is the 2 color one. I purchased the red/black combination. As soon as I get finished with all my chores here in the house I am gonna install mine. Its cold outside anyway, trying to let it warm up some.

I found mine at www.ecklers.com

I have seen some negative post about Ecklers lately but my order was filled and at my door within one week. I don't consider that too bad seeing as I ordered mine 12/23 Sunday. I also got the shade clips to keep my shade from coming loose of the original shade clips. I just can't see why they didn't use these aftermarket types instead of the ones that came on the Vette. Mine was always rolling back up whenever I would start driving. These aftermarket ones will not let that happen :smash:

Walt,

You can order them to fit if you remove the factory leather, but they don't cover the spokes. I don't have a picture of a C4 steering wheel, but you can see what I mean on this C5 wheel: http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum/c5corsteerwh.html. Let me know if you have any questions on them or if I can help, regardless of where you buy it.

The leather was already off when I got my Vette. The Wheelskins are cheaper than $200-300 to have it recovered. I just want to be sure the fit will be right without the original leather present.

Walt,

Without the OE leather, all you need to do is measure the grip circumference and the outside diameter of the wheel. With these two measurements, I can have these covers made to fit any steering wheel and in any color or combination. IF you decide to order from me, just pick the colors you want and put the measurements in the "comments" box of the order form, the price would be the same.

I was wondering if there would be any ill effects to the original leather on the wheel if it was removed at a later date.

I honestly can't see where it would hurt anything, its just a leather cover over a leather steering wheel . I posted pictures in another thread " Wheelskin Pictures" go see...its not much to it. :yesnod:

Is it better to remove the old leather? I would think it may be too thick with both the original and the WheelSkin on.

It does make it a little thicker and it feels different at first. Pretty soon it feels normal.
