Ok, I have fixed both headlight bushings now I want to change the battery in my '88. Anyone have a good written procedure? (prefer lots of pics) I was also thinking about and Optima but I'm not convinced it's worth the extra cost. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Everstart from Walmart. Consumer Reports gave it a very good rating.
Reasonably priced, 3 year free replacement and Wally Worlds are located everywhere, just in case.
I replaced the battery in my '90 in January. I only drive it about every two to three weeks, sometimes not for a month, but it has always started, except when the alternator diodes burned out. I had it rebuilt and now am back to normal, whatever that is!
Make sure that you look at the date code on the battery, the newer the date, the fresher the battery.
On my 84 I just took out the bolts on my side panel but left the bottom ones in so that the panel pivots out. I had to unbolt my cruise control and the battery came out through the opening. On the newer ones I believe the computers there so that might need a different method or it might unbolt and can be moved out of the way. But when I bought my battery the counter guys were telling me that they were having alot of Optima returns. So instead of buying the Optima I just bought a standard battery with a few more amps and saved some $.

I had a Optima in my car, and had nothing but problems w/ it. Died after 1-1/2 years, and would not start half the time before that.
I thought it was my aftermarket alarm. Bought a Duralast from Auto Zone, and have had no problems since.
To change the battery, remove the fender on the drivers side of the car, you'll need a set of torx bits, a 10 mm socket, and a 1/2" open end wrench.
