91 6 sp hard shifting into reverse
I'm a C3 guy but have a friend who just joined the Corvette family with a 91. It's a 6 speed and he's having trouble shifting into reverse. Once it's in reverse, it moves fine and there's no noise or other problems. Is this something that is not unusual with the C4 and where should I look first - tranny or shifter? Thanks for any help.
Look at your clutch adjustment. Forward gears will have synchros that allow them to go in easier. Reverse normally does not so if your clutch is dragging ever so slightly it will be hard going into reverse.
I would expect someone with experience in the vette 6 speed will chime in but I have seen just this on other cars over the years
I would first check the clutch master cylinder reservoir to make sure the fluid is up to the correct level. you can use a DOT3 brake fluid to fill. Sometimes there can be air in the line and it will be necessary to bleed the lines. That requires getting the car up in the car so the bleeding can be done at the slave cylinder on the bellhousing.
Other possibilites may be a worn clutch disc, mis-alignment of the clutch fork, loose fulcrum ball or worn throwout bearing.
