Default Cold air intake for a c4

I was wondering if the SLP system is the only one out there. I've been looking for one for my 1992 corvette to help it breathe better and it the only one that I can find. If it is is it really worth the $300.00 that they are asking for it.

Though you will get some differing opinions, the general consensus is that a k&n filter with cut filter lid is the best way to go, and pretty cheap also. The only intake systems that have shown proven gains involve ram-air through the bumper. The SLP system does look cool though.

I've heard about the K@N with the cut lid. Do you buy the lid or is it a home made thing. If its home made how do I go about it and do you have any pictures to so what it looks like.

I can't pinpoint any specific threads, but just to a search for "cut lid" and I'm sure you'll find a ton of info. Stores sell the k&n filter + lid combo, but you can do the lid VERY easily with a dremel. It just involves removing some plastic from the face of the filter cover.

Thanks for the help shakedown. It looks to me from locobob and the dyno chart that its a waste of time to cut the lid and a waste of money to buy the SLP. Not a big enough diffrence in the power gain. Thanks again for the information.

Default your mileage may vary...

I may be wrong, but just because it didn't do much for a 400+ HP engine doesn't mean it wouldn't help a lower hp engine. If he's putting out 400+ hp then he has a lot of other mods to the car that you probably don't have. I think comparing your car to his is like comparing apples to oranges. I think you need to do more investigating. (Unless you are also puting out 400+ hp. If so, then forget what I said.)

Too bad I haven't seen any cold air intakes that are chromed for a C-4. Maybe get a black and powder coat it.

I'd actually think the opposite. If any engine were gonna be starved by the factory setup, it would be a higher winding higher horsepower motor. The less power you make, the less airflow you need.

The SLP is a nice piece though, the lip won't get soft or deform like the factory box, it's easy to take out and put in, and it looks nice. If that's worth $300, then get it. If you think it's gonna add a bunch of power, save your money.

Your vette came with a 'cold air intake' from the factory. It sucks cold air in directly from under the nose! Very efficient straight-through system.

Having said that I wouldn't mind that transparent ram-air type system.. it's just there are other things I'd rather spend $ on first...

Im on my second one. The first one warped from heat. It does indeed look nice when the hood is up, but I could feel no beneficial horsepower gains from the set up. I added a Big Mouth Air Dam thinking it would help it. I feel like it's faster but after I wash it, I have the same feeling.

actually it doesnt, it sucks air through the radiator and back to the intake, instead of straight off the ground
