Default Hypertech Power Programer???

Hello All,

I am considering purchasing the hypertech power programer to be able to change the fan on and off temps as well as the shift points of the transmission. Does any one have experience with this programer?? I have a 1994 LT-1. I had no idea that this car had a re-writeable computer!! Any experiences , comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I have one. I used it for cooling fan changes, rear end ratio change, and tire size change.
Also shift changes. It does OK if that is all you expect. As soon as a friend has a chance to set up the PCM with a custom tune I will not need it anymore.

I would not pay that kind of money for one!! I think I gave about $100, maybe a tad more, for mine. Just be sure if you buy a used one that it is not vin locked.

That is a bunch of . Perhaps one didn't know what one was doing with it. No, it is not the one and all answer, but far from "FAIL." I don't understand why people have to run down another product just because they didn't have satisfactory expectations. Perhaps one should have asked about its limitations for one's particular needs before buying. Sorry it didn't make another 50 hp in your case. "That should about sum it all up."

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I just hate to see products run down on the forum and not give reasons or cause for such statements so others can weigh the differences.

If used for the things that aminnich posted, then it is worth it to someone that needs to do basic tuning or corrections and doesn't want to go as far as a special tune. I have one and also have a p4l tune and I'll keep both.

I ran my '94 LT1 with it and also after I installed the LT4 hot cam and some head work. It worked fine before and after. I just wanted to fine tune the hot cam and heads with the p4l tune. Surprise, there was not that much difference in the numbers.

I don't think they make one for your setup anyway....according to your profile.

Actually, the Hypertech chip in my 89 truck did just that...fail. I haven't heard anything about their programmers though, but they have had some issues with their chips. I have a powerprogrammer for my 96 and also bought it used. I too wouldn't pay that kind of money for what little you get out of it.

My car came with one of these. I did a lot of experimenting and in the end decided I couldn't tell the difference with the 'power tune'. However for the fan reprogramming it was great, did the job. I have left it like that.
I have a 6-spd so no use for the trans stuff.

Definitely not worth what they are asking, tho.. I'd get a custom tune that includes what you are after.

My experience as well. Good product for these things. as for tuning I really can't say i noticed any difference, the 4.11 rear in the LT4 sure felt good though

I bought one back in 1999 when I first got my C4 , never had any problems with it . If your looking for more HP a custom tune will be better , If your just looking to be able to control your temps a little better it does fine . I used a 160 t-stat . I still have the programmer some where , if your interested send me a PM . Its for a 94 LT-1 .

JDC,

PM has been sent...

I am not looking for any more power I am just looking to adjust the fan temps and maybe the shift firmness...That is about it...It seems that for the $375 that they are asking that it should read codes also. But I see nothing in the instructions about that.....

if your changing the fan temps, and shift points, it's perfect.
don't expect much more than that.

One more thing it can adjust the speedo for non-factory tire sizes. If you;ll ever need that.
No code reading- it's really basic.

If you get a used one make sure the PO has taken their tune back to stock, otherwise you will be stuck with their stored stock tune and won't be able to use it on your car.
