My 90 would not start so I installed a new fuel pump and fuel filter. This was a sudden thing. I started it up and drove it 3 miles to a store. I came out and it would not start. I do hear the pump turn on. The car does crank over but no start. I will check fuel pressure this morning once the sun pops up.The fuel pump fuse is good. If I spray starter fluid in the intake it will almost start up for a second. This tells me fuel is not getting in?
Before no start hit, the car was idling low and would try to bog down and try to stall. Occasionaly it would backfire when accelerating from stop. I do hear the pump turn on. The car does crank over but no start. I will check fuel pressure this morning once the sun pops up.
This may sound stupid but could the cat be clogged? If so do I need to put on a new one or could I just take it off and replace it with a pipe. I know I should keep going green.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
What about the fuel psi regulator? The problem may not be fuel. It may be in the ignition system. How strong of a spark does it have? Might have a problem with the coil or the ignition module itself.
Give me a clue to check these things out if you would please. Spark strength? I have a volt meter, repair manual and even a metric crescent wrench, ha ha.
Pull a plug wire and bring a grounded wire close to the plug boot while someone cranks. You should easily get a 1/2 inch snappy spark. Get a fuel pressure gauge and connect it to the shrader valve on the end of the right side fuel rail. Ignition on, you should have between 36 and 43 psi. Ignition off, this pressure should hold for at least 15 minutes. Rapid drop in fuel pressure, you have leaky injector or leaky check valve in the fuel pressure regulator.
