My 1996 Vette auto LT1 with manual climate control. When the air-conditioning is switched on the air is blowin thru the bottom vents. The air should be blowin thru the top vents. I replaced a check valve that was under the passenger side fuel rail cover. The air still blows
only thru the bottom vents. Anyone know how too solve this problem??
The vette only has 17k miles.
Do a search on a/c programmers. Something to do with the vacumn lines collasping at the nipple of the programmer.
Here's a link with pictures showing how to fix this problem. It fixed the problem that I had on my 96 with the air only blowing out of the defog and the floor vents only.

Even though your system is manual and mine is electronic, it sounds like you have the same problem that I had. My air would only blow out the floor and the defrost only; no air would come out the instrument panel vents. It was a vacuum problem like illustrated in the link I gave. I didn't want to tackle the job myself, so I took it to the dealer. They said that it was vacuum problem and fixed it without parts. From what I've read here, this is a common problem on the later model C4 vettes, especially the 96's.
On a scale of one to ten. Ten being the most difficult.
How would you rate trying to fix this problem?
Im not a mechanic, just the basics, oil changes and plugs.
