Modified Air Lid made simple.
For those that keep asking, or wondering what we mean, I thought I'd try and make it simple. I just did this mod myself and took pics along the way. Here goes :D :
First you start off with a factory air filter lid.

You can use your own, or if you're like me and want to save it, buy a used one. I got mine used for $20. A new one is around $40. If you get this mod from MAD or Ecklers you'll pay around $60 and they do about the same thing as shown here.
Then you need to remove this.

I used my Dremel I got for Christmas! :D You can use a rotorary tool, hacksaw, tin snips, jigsaw, chainsaw, ax, whatever you wish! :jester
This is what you have after removing the above.

This is what it looks like with the a K&N under it.

This is what it looks like under the hood.

Since I've spun a bearing back in July, I can't tell if it's going to make a difference or not, but it gave me something to do while I'm saving for a 383!

I believe the process is about the same. Someone that has done there's should say. I believe your air lid is just a little smaller.

I did the same on my 86. Spend the money and get a portable jig saw, it makes life a lot easier. I got a clean cut with a metal blade and it took about 15 min, as opposed to the 30 min it took with the dremel to make a scratch on one side.

That lid looks familiar.
When I cut my lid I bought some door edge guard strips and put them ou the edges of the opening no sharp or rough edges that was and looks like it was made that way.

I have planned on doing that to mine also, has anyone tested it to see if any gains come from just doing that on a stock motor? I have heard it increases the sound of the engine, just wonder if it increases the the hp & torque. :smash:

Did someone call me? (See sig) :D
I did notice there is a difference in engine noise up front. Has more of a whooshing/sucking air sound. I'm a fan of it. I noticed a slight increase in SOTP acceleration. I say go for it, whaddaya got to lose?
