Default ?? Glass Top Value ??

Hey guys/gals,
I am thinking about selling my bronze glass top. I am the original owner of my 96 and I bought the top with the car. It has never been used and still has the protective film from GM on the glass. Any ideas about a fair value are welcome.
Thanks,
Scott

Default Need Top

I would like to replace my glass top on my 95. It has the blue not the bronze. The car is Torch Red with red interior. I,m not sure how that would look. As you probably know, they range from $950.00 to $1200.00 or I could send my top out for a refit for about half the price. Then you have shipping. I'm not sure what the value of your top is. I live in Indiana and might be willing to drive down there to pick it up. When you decide on a price let me know. Good luck

Bronze with red/red is a good match. Bronze was a factory option with red/red and my '90 is a red/red-bronze build. I don't know if the majority of red/red builds were bronze or blue.

I would think it's value would be something "near" the Melrose price for a re-lens with a GM "logo"! More? Maybe! There's a good bit to consider when comparing. Adhesive technology has improved for sure.

Was the top purchased seperately with your car or was it part of the build and came with the top. Early production tops had the VIN etched on the top frame (later I don't know) and when it came to resale of the car I would think an original "bagged" top might add considerable to the "sell"! The VIN is on the front of the left or right top side rail. If it's there it would be easy to spot. The VIN etch was only the last eight of the VIN. Stand your top on the backside and you should see the VIN etch on the end of one of the side rails.

I'd say the value would be somewhere in between the two. You'll surely get more than $250 , but I don't see you getting $1000. Maybe $500 to $600.

PM's replied too. Thanks for all the input! I am going to see if it has my VIN on it. To answer the question...... The car was originally supposed to be a museum pick-up. We were then notified at the last minute that that option was not going to be available because they were retooling the factory for the C5. The car was then delivered to my home on a rollback, all wrapped in plastic. The glass roof was ordered with the car and it was loaded in the back storage area.

I have been watching E-bay, I have seen NOS with the plastic film still on go for about $500+ up to 800ish in the last few months. Keep in mind this doesnt include shipping and with E-bay you never know what your getting. Also I have only seen the black or blue, never bronze. I have also seen ones with cracks and etc get around $400 so the value seems to depend on if there is somebody in need. I also wouldnt go by e-bay as a guide, just thought since i had been wathicng for them and seen some prices i would comment.

$500 to $600 depending on condition. But a word of caution. Have it professionally packed and insured by a FEDEX store or UPS store to protect yourself and the customer. If it cracks along the way at least everybodies covered. If you pack it and it breaks its on you to sell the arugment that you packed it correctly anyway its cleaner and you should be very specific up front that you are not packing it up. Something to think about towards your agreed on price. Best advice I can give you since its too big to ship via the USPS. GC

Ive seen horror stories of breakage on this forum over the last few years. Here is a link to CajunC4s post just this week. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2157670

Ok all, I am the one who purchased the top. This top was brand new, never used and still had the GM protective film on it.

Scott is a super nice guy, and has an awesome looking LT4.
From the looks of his Corvette and his garage, he keeps everything in immaculate condition.

Anything Scott ever lists for sale will be top notch quality, and you can count on his word.
Thanks again Scott, it was a pleasure meeting you.

Scott,

I'd be interested to know if the top was actually VIN identified in the later production builds.

A "personal meet" sale is always the best sale! Money, part, compliments and "hand-shakes" exchanged!

I looked all over the top for a VIN and could not find it. Thats not too say it wasn't there, I didn't see it. I think if I would have found the VIN, I would of kept it. However, I hadn't used it in 13 model years so............... Have a great weekend!

Scott,

I do believe the VIN number is on the top. I took the top off this morning and looked. It's located on the front drivers side.
I'll send you a PM with the number, and you can verify if it's the last 8 numbers of your VIN
