Default Annual side pipe question...

I have seen the side effects brand but here is one for the resaech gurus on here...

A pic of a C4 with the cobra/C3 style 4" pipes?

Has anyone ever seen one on the web or has someone ever photoshopped a set of black pipes on a C4??

Help me out

I have yet to see a C/3 C/2 type of side pipes on a C4. They just wouldnt look good imho. I have seen a few pictures of a C4 with some sort of sidepipes on them. They looked sort of ok.

I think it is sort of old school, 60 - 73ish thing the 4 inch side pipes.
By the time the C4 came out, sidepipes were a thing of the past.

But, when I owned my 73, I did get a set of sidepipes and they looked great. But on my 87, they would lucky downright ugly and out of place.

We have sidepipes on our copper 87 and I think they look good on there. They were color matched and it just gives it a cool effect. I don't know how many times we have been out driving around town or out on the interstate, ppl pull up beside us to check them out and then drop back to see if they are "true exhaust". (yes they are). It's a modification I'd love to do with my 94.

The frame dips down on our cars, which is the reason SideEffects did what they did.

How about a picture that says it all !
I tried and even got on the list for a set of powereffects.com side pipes because if you stand back the C 4 side slopes down into nothing but a hole just begging to be filled.
A tad less heat underneath in traffic too.
Any way the guy I got the literature from said the castings were run from a GM contracted casting plant and they had to have a minimum # of orders to make a run.
He also said he could send sound tape w/various mods and resonators.
The C 4 in the pic is absolutely gorgeous I don't care who you are.
No as far as I know they still are not making them and these were picked up at a flea market.

http://digitalcorvettes.com/forums/s...t=side+effects

I could defiantly live with that car and those pipes !

I looked around here for pics before I went to a post on another site [ not the one the pics came from] I made back in 2007 .
I'm not into wings either but that car looks really good.
I have chrome badges that sure would look nice on that fantastic hood.
C 4's and some wonder why we like them so much.
No mystery here !

Have you or anyone you know tried to make them work? The reason that I ask this because as an example when I put the BB in I left the wiper motor out because it didn't fit (or so everyone said). I looked at it recently and noticed that it went in with a little persuasion

Side effects also wanted to keep the emmissions intact so that would be another reason to do a cat-back system.

I'm not slamming you, I just want to know if it has been attempted. I like the old school "cobra" type black pipes. I grabbed a set off ebay and wanted to see if anyone had tried to run the piping yet

You can like or not like em' but I can't wait to dig in and figure out how to pipe these puppies in

I think that the mounting itself looks simple bu they are a bit long so I have to get the welder out and get a bit creative

Same story he's been saying for 5 yrs. I finally had to find a salvagable set (through Trading Times.com). They were in decent shape with no rust. I ended up using stainless streening to hold in the muffler packing -- which had come out of the originals. I recoated the entire setup with header paint to ensure longevity. You've seen the result...

Make me an offer!

Seriously, thanks. If you haven't figured it out yet, look at my avatar (and the second pic in your link). You will find the same pics in CF archives.

I'm still working on the customization. I'm finally getting close to understanding what I want (and need) to do to the motor to match the physical appearance. Plus I have a completely new black interior with red accents sitting in boxes. Oh yeah, chrome badges for the hood/butt per your request too!

gp

BTW: One huge advantage of the fiberglass-covered version I have (vs C3-style pipes) is the heat shielding. You don't have to worry about touching your leg during entry/exit. That mistake could cause a nasty burn.

That will look great!!!

I'm going to make a piping suggestion you might not like, but it's the one that might work best.

Consider punching a hole behind your exits. Connect from the belly of the car. In effect, you'll head right thru the exits already setup. Flow won't be any worse -- only taking a different route than others would think. Use flattened or rectangular tubing to minimize clearance issues where your pipe runs under the frame. Be cognisant of brake and fuel lines too. (This was the alternative I'd considered until finding my "Side-Effects" set).

If you "cheat" like I suggest, the outside pipe wouldn't get as hot either. Engine heat won't fill the rest of the pipe. (Consider running your feed right thru the entire exit. The pipes you have now would be a dummy for appearance. But, so is the skin on the rest of your car!

Check this idea out, I thought of it a few minutes ago and it will work

I am going to weld a 2.5" pipe inside the pipe under the mount bracket that will run up about 36" or so. It won't be visible from the side and piping is similar to your side effect mufflers.
I want to use the pipe mufflers so the extra pipe will carry the exaust forward then make the turn into the muffler.
It will also allow me to run staight back from the headers then a 90 into the pipes. There will be 3 turns but I am not really worried about a little back pressure

The trick will be to cut the front of the pipes so they look good where I make the turn, I grabbed these off ebay and they are a little longer than I expected.

By the way...have you "broken ground" on you power plant yet?

The top of the motor is off and I have headers. Will buy rest of parts when total parts list is absolutely complete.

I understand what you mean by running pipe behind the other. I considered that too. I thought 2.25" might be the biggest that wouldn't show. You could completely slice out the back/inside of the pipes and use them as covers...

My issue is came in considering how to run pipe under the frame rail up front. It seemed that going in front of the rear wheels looked a better option -- especially if you consider brake/fuel lines.

I agree with running the pipe up front, The way I'm thinking it will run out about 1' - 1.5' feet before the rear tire
