Default 1990 Needs fuel pump

How difficult is it to replace a fuel pump in a 1990 Corvette?

What are the steps?

its very easy. just remove the fuel door lid assambly. and then the boot. and you will see about 10 bolts. and a couple sets of wires. and then you will have it in your hands

Only thing I would add is to remove the fuel pump fuse and start car for a few seconds to remove fuel pressure from lines. Otherwise as stated, pretty easy.

Yes, please. Sparks are not your friend here. Also clean the area around the opening prior to pulling the pump/sender assembly so no contaminants fall into the tank. Tape up the opening while the cover is off....fumes build up quickly. Leave the garage door open to be safe.

Other than that, 20 minute job. One of the real joys of C4 ownership.

I tried changing the fuel pump without any knowledge of doing it and it took me about an hour and half. Felt good when everything came out perfect.

OK.... safety question here....

Full tank, almost full or low.... Which is safer....

I understand vapor is bad so a full tank is safer... but just something I was looking for a clearer answer...

Good Luck on your '90 ... Replacing the fuel pump is a winter project for my '90 as well

Full tank = safer. Less surface area for vapors to build up. Liquid gasoline is much less explosive than vapors are. But either way, tape up the opening once you have the pump assembly out. You can't be TOO safe working with gasoline tanks.
