I know we all have whooped this topic to death. But I'm looking to put new shocks on the vette this weekend. I have Bilsteins on the car now 96' CE, which I think are done for. My question is and I have searched the forums for the answer. A couple of people have mentioned the rise of nearly 3'' in the back end of the car when they installed new shocks. With my Bilsteins I problably don't have a 1'' to 1 1/2'' of of wheel to well clearence in the front & back wich I like. Do all other shocks, KYB / Koni / Eibachs / Monroe lift the car this much? I have no problems putting Bilsteins back on the car to keep that lowered look, but if I know the KYB's won't do this rise in the rear they will be my option I go with. Any info would help me out. By the way the car is not a daily driver just loking for a good performance, tight handling , streetability shock. Thank again.
I fail to see why a new shock would change ride height. The only way I can see this is if the shock were bottoming out, in other words, too long of a shock. The only shocks I know that will change ride height is either the ones with helper springs on them and air shocks.
I was thinking the exact same thing. But one of the forum members quoted that his wife noticed the *** end was higher after the new installation. I have lowered a many of my cars & trucks in the past and always had to either to install drop shocks, shorter springs, drop spindles, shackles, etc.. This is my 1st corvette so I did'nt know if there was something different that I did'nt know about when just wanting to install new shocks. The car already sits low now and I like the look. I was just curious if new shocks did this to a vette. Thanks for the info again.

Originally my '85 Z51 had Bilsteins on it, I lowered it right after I got it. A while later I made the mistake of putting Monroe's on the car. They did not change the ride height one bit. I have had it with the Monroe's so I just ordered a set of Tokico's. When I get them installed I will see if they change the ride height any.
There's another thread here now about KYB shocks, I'm glad I didn't get them for my car according to what I've read in that thread. Tokico assured me I would like their shock so we will see.
