Default How do you replace a pwr. window motor?

I have the inside of the door off. It appears to be down low, I can only see it with a mirror. I can't reach it. It seems like the outside door skin has to come off. I don't know how to do that.

If your replacing the motor and/or the regulator you need to remove the lower and upper regulator retention bolts (center of the inside door panel) then pull the window up and forward to pull the assembly out. The outside skin does not come off for this repair. The window glass when you remove the lower retention bolts actully lifts up and out of the way like a lambo door. (no im not kidding) The front edge of the window is retained by a nut through a hole in the bottom of the window (one closest too the hinge)

I take it the window should be up for this? Which are the lower and upper regulator retention bolts ? Where are they in relation to say the door opening handle? I get what you mean it pivots up about the front like a Lamborgini. I took a pic, maybe I should email it to you? I'm at sriesgraf@comcast.net

Do a search - I did & found many pics & info on WW removal - I also did a post on checking out the motor BEFORE you buy a new assy. Good luck!

The car is a 94. I searched and found info on C3's and C5's. no C4's. I am a mechanical engineer that still doesn't get it. So the entire window and lift mechanism has to come out?

Some good stuff here.

I did the ones on my '88 a couple years ago and bought the regulator/motor assembly. The hardest part was unbolting the glass from the regulator and reattaching the rods/clips for the actuators afterwards. The rest was just time consuming.

DO NOT clean the glass while you have it out, as it'll make reassembly allignment a non-occurance if you just line everything up with the dirt marks when you put the glass back in.

Thanks, this is unbelievable. No wonder the tealer wanted ~ $400 in labor. After reading this:

"My '95 window was stuck in the up position--good thing I didn't have a manual when I replaced my motor.

It can all be done, just move slowly and be prepared to take every freaking thing apart -- it's a good bonding experience with your door's innards.

Also be prepared to utter a sentence such as "What genius head-up-his-**** engineer designed this thing with rivets instead of removable fasteners?"

I don't want to do this. I'd rather replace a piston!
