Did a test for a few days this past week. I filled up the car till the pump stopped. I then drove 307 miles (3 days to work and back home), and filled up again.
Dashboard said 18.4 Average MPG.
307 miles / 16.676 gallons of gas = 18.409 MPG :yesnod:
Yeah that is actually pretty poor milage right there. I normally average about 22-23 on that particular stretch of highway because you area constantly going up and down hills. When I went to bowling green I averaged 27.5mpg. I'm trying to find out why it is down about 4-5 right now. Other people in the immediate area have reported the same thing, so it is sort of odd.
I am doing about the same thing here. I quit resetting my MPG monitor and for the past 3 weeks I have been averaging 22.3 mpg but alot of this is city driving. If I am driving Highway only I have been averaging 30.7 on roads that have 55 mph limits(which i drive 60-63) and 27.5 on 70 mph limits (which I drive 75-78). :yesnod: Scorp how much stop and go traffic are you in with that average you stated?
I usually get about 15 in the city, but then again this time a year I always start the car for about 10 minutes before I head out.....that really kills my average!

Very little, that is why I am .
From my house to the highway is 2.5 miles, and 2 stops (3 if the one light is red). Of course I'm on the gas hard from the 2nd/3rd stop as the car is warmed up by then.
I take two highways, so there are a couple more off/on ramps. After that is a 3.5 mile drive to work that has 3 stoplights that I normally hit all red in the morning with some stop & go.
I drive between 75-80mph which shows 22-24mpg on the instant gauge, but the hills kill some of that. That speed used to be 24-26.
Fastguy was told that the additives added in our gas during winter could be the cause. He is also down about 4mpg from his normal average. We have no clue how true this is.
Finally some realistic #'s... I was wondering.... on 200 mile + trips my '88 is 23-25 hwy (@ 75-80 MPH) and 20-21 overall... I remember reading guys saying 30 hwy (I wondered if they drove 55)

Fastguy got the right info... the NE states - NY, MA, RI, CN, NJ and such are pushing for CA like emission requirements... sooooooo... they add stuff to the gas. mainly, alcohol additives. Which, in turn, harm economy. DE uses them during the summer, but does not in the winter. On Oct 1 they switch back and my mileage picked up 2 mpg!!!
Ive had the same question. Ive always averaged 21- 23 highway/ street-- more highway. Latley it dropped to 18.x and so I replaced the O2 sensor. Its up to 20.4 but almost pure highway-- shouldnt it be higher?
When I take an occasional highway trip to Orlando, I average about 29-31 MPG at a steady 70-80 MPH. When it's over, the average mileage readout says about 24-27 MPG.
My readout usually says around 20.5. When I checked wuth actual milage divided by gallons, it's the same. Remarkable, I think. The O2 sensor will lower milage. There seems to be quite a spread in milage on this thread :boxing
