Default Odd question

does anyone know if it is possible for a 1987 corvette to have an air bag installed. I have owned this car since I was 21 and it was brand new. My wife wanted to save it for my son who gets his license in a month. I would prefer him to drive something with a little more meat but we will see. Thanks for your help

Almost anything is possible the problem will be the cost involved and if anyone would be willing to tackle the job in the first place. The local garage certainly won't do it and finding someone who can will not be the only challenge. You have to find someone who could do it as well as would do it. The problem is if you pay someone to install a coulmn from a newer Corvette and the airbag and sensors will they be responsible if it doesn't go off if needed ? Personally I wouldn't put a first time driver in a Corvette, not for fear of what might happen to the car rather what might happen to the child.

That is my concern, altough he believes it will be an everyday car, that will not be the case. He will muddle around our neighborhood a bit. I was curious if it could be done and a potential cost
Thanks

IMHO, it can be done, but you could just buy a later C4 for about as much...

If it was me, I would probably let the boy sow his wild automotive oats in a starter car. He will trash the 87 within 6 months. Let him get some driving experience and a little maturity first, then let him drive the vette.

It could be done but it wouldn't be cheap and again finding someone who would do it and be potentially responsible for it is another issue.
I know for a fact you can have the rev limiter raised when you have a custom tune done so why couldn't you lower the rev limiter to something silly like 2500rpm ? He certainly won't be doing any drag racing like that or anything too stupid. Just a thought good luck with whatever you decide.

Cost would be too high to retro fit and would it work right. I agree with getting a later model with it already installed from the factory.
