I haven't heard a success story yet from someone who has painted their garage floor and have seen it stand the test of time. It will peel/chip/flake at some point. Your idea is a good one, but consider doing with with floor tiles.

Same here. Paint will flake up if the floor has any oil or dirt present. I was thinking the same thing then I found some realativly inexpensive floor tiles (about $400 to do my floor) from floorjunkies.com (no affiliation with them). Very durable and can come with me if we ever move again :-)
They have all kinds of colors to so you could make the same design with this kind of product.

If you are going to to paint, this is the voice of experience.
Check the instructions regarding the tempature.
1. Clean it first with muriatic acid and water.
2. Power wash.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2.
4. Use a good quality epoxy paint. Plan on using 50% more than the can says.
5. Finish with 2 coats of epoxy clearcoat.
Be careful with the muriatic acid. Vinal gloves and protect your eyes.

Did mine 3 years ago and still looks great does not peal.

Used Rust-Oleum epoxy garage kit, added Behr non-skid to mix also. Still looks great, no peel. Prep is the key, especially if your floor was sealed. Acid, scrub, rinse (2X), let it dry real good, than work fast (if you can get a second person to edge while you roll, that helps, epoxy has short pot time). Keep cars off floor for a few days. Worse part of job was listening to wife bitch about all the garage stuff out in driveway under tarps
I've used the one part from home depot and it looked great but the first time any bit of gas, coolant or trans fluid got on it the paint flaked and came right off, also it makes your floor very very slick when wet.
