I have an 87 convertible with 152,000 miles. Never had any engine problems until now. Taking the car out this past weekend, one mile from home coolant temperature started increasing. I turned around and headed back home, then white smoke out the exhaust, which cleared up by the time I returned home, Temp had risen to 250. I immediately suspected head gasket. Removed #5 plug, soaked with coolant. Removed #7, same, 1 & 3 were dry. Removed 2,4,6 & 8. 2 & 4 were dry, 6 & 8 soaked with coolant. Also, before shutting engine off, steam coming from behind left exhaust manifold. At first I knew it must be head gaskets. Is it possible to blow two head gaskets at one time? What about the Oil cooler or intake manifold? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?
to do the headgasket, you've got to pull the intake manifold anyways, so why don't you just pull that and go from there. if the intake manifold gasket is bad, then that was probably it, if not, keep digging.
