I am fixing to do my exhaust on my 87 and this is what is done so far. Stock exhaust has had all the cats hollowed. I have a pair of flowmaster mufflers that I am thinking about putting on. OR my other option it to just get rid of everthing and run true dual pipe with a H pipe in the center with tips, no mufflers.
So which does everyone think will sound better?? No cats with stock exhaust set up with flowmasters.
Or true dual pipe with no mufflers?
I want a deep sound that just sounds awesome when you mash the gas peddle and get on it.

I think it will be too loud. Most of the muffling comes from the cats. A car with mufflers and no cats (or gutted cats) will be louder (plus it's illegal, but I'll leave that for another thread) than one with stock or high flow cats and no mufflers.

Neither, will sound good. Both exhaust options will be very loud and have an annoying exhaust Drone at lower rpm's which will give you a headache!
Corsa, is the only "No Drone" performance exhaust option for the Vettes. I've tried Flowmaster 50 series, Magnaflow and KBD Targa tip mufflers before I finally bought the Corsa cat back.
I'm very happy now and have received many compliments on the sound.

that is what I want is the loudness. My C5 has cats and no mufflers and has drone too, but it sounds bad ***.
I'm really happy with the Corsa cat back I put on my '89 coupe. This week I'm ditching the pre cats and factory cat and replacing with a 2.5" Y pipe from MAM and a high flow main cat. It should sound a little louder. Hope I don't pick up the dreaded drone though.
The Flowmasters were loud but, it didn't have that Aggressive sound. It sounded like a loud hum.
I had a "91" Camaro with Flowmasters and that car sounded Awesome! I was embarrassed at how the C4 Vette sounded and had the Flowmasters removed 4 days later.

I'd like to hear this "embarassing" flowmaster c4.
To the OP: You can go either way to get the sound you want, one is cheaper and one more expensive. No cats + muffler will be louder, no muffler will be even louder.
If you really want to go dual exhaust, what I would do is go 2.25" pipe all around, weld the casing of the pre-cats on the front section so it appears it is stock from that area, then run duals straight down the mid-section and have the H-pipe intersect where the front of the main cat was, then finish the exhaust with your flowmasters.
I would NOT go dual exhaust with no mufflers, as it would drone louder than any type of muffler.
thanks guys. I think right now I am going to go the cheaper route and just have them weld on my flowmasters to the existing exhaust and try that for the winter. If I don't like it then come summer I will redo the exhaust again.
