MY '90 ZR-1 HAS A GOOFY DOOR AJAR SWITCH. IF I JUST TOUCH THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL IT LIGHTS UP AND WILL STICK IN THE OPEN POSITION AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. ANY ONE ELSE EVER DEAL WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS? IS THERE A SIMPLE WAY TO DISABLE THE SWITCH? [IMG][/IMG] :cry
I just had the door switch replaced in my 92. It started setting the alarm off all the time. Apparently the previous owner took out the door switch and tucked the wires inside the door. It was okay until the wires moved and shorted out, then I had the alarm problems.
IT IS THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH FOR SURE.
I ASSUME THE DOOR PANEL HAS TO COME OFF TO GET TO IT.
Ok. I'm just wondering because the Door Ajar switch is not able to drain the battery unless it is a different setup in the late C4s. The door ajar switch/light only works when the keys are on. The door jam switch on the other hand will leave the interior lights on and drain ya. :)
IT MAY STILL BE THE "AJAR" SWITCH, WHEN I TOUCH THE DOOR PANEL THE AJAR LIGHT COMES ON AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR LITE. HOWEVER WHEN THE BATTERY WAS DRAINING I DID NOT NOTICE THE INTERIOR LITES ON. MAYBE I AHVE A PROBLEM WITH BOTH SWITCHES? [IMG][/IMG]
You can change the switch without removing the panel.
I went nuts over this, turned out to be my rear hatch switch.
Until you get a chance to fix this, you can pull the fuses. There is a 5 amp and a 20 amp fuse. The 5 amp takes care of the door lights and under the dash and the 20 amp takes care of the hatch lights and radio.
To remove and replace the switch without removing the panel do the following:
Remove bottom screw and replace with a longer screw of the same size.
Remove the top screw, pull switch out as far as you can on longer screw.
Replace top screw behind switch. There is a plate inside the door that you
are trying to keep from falling inside the door, if it drops you will need to
pull the panel to get to it.
Remove bottom long screw and pull switch out to get to plug.
Reverse procedure to install new switch.
