Default First AutoX

So I finally got all my kiinks worked out and I head out to the local Autocross. Its my first ever and I thought I would do ok with my low end torque. My first two runs were not so great since I didnt know the course well enough and missed an entire section.
One ride along and my bud helped fix that big mistake and The next run I ran a 52 only hitting 1 cone(2 sec penalty). Then It was tiem for group 2 so I had to wait and think waht i could do better.
Finally rolls around to my turn again. I try to leave without spinning much(pretty slick on road tires) and I get a clean run in at 50 sec(best of the day). The next two runs I was sloshing gas horribly bad and would cut in and out and spun out entering the final slolom(sp?) but I will be back with more gas next month.
The veterans were pretty surprised I did so good when they found out it was my first time. Slicks would have made a world of difference along with 1/2 tank of gas. Its the same course for the next 2 months so Im hoping to get my time down to 48sec or less.

Sounds like you had fun. It is a sickness after you do it a few times you can not get enough.

Come on Brian, be a man, run it with street tires with a 400 treadware. That was the most fun I have ever had at a auto-x, times were really really bad BUT man what a lot of fun.

15 will fit in the back, getting it to clear the front would be a challange, unless there front runners. 15's give you lots of sidewall, so you can get the power down.

But you really want 17in or bigger for autoxing.

Road race tire had and need a stiff sidewall.

I was doing it for slicks only in the back. Once I get my TTIIs my c4 rims will become my track rims and slicks will be put on them instead. and the 15 will be good for the strip when I go also

Slicks just in back will work great at the dragstrip, but you'll need them up front as well for autox to maintain the balance.

BTW Pickup a rulebook from whoever your race with.
Putting true slicks vs DOT race rubber usually bumps you into some crazy class.

NCCC it puts you in race prepared if they are true slicks. If they are DOT tires with a couple grooves it will put you in group 3 I do believe.

Im with SCCA and I dont care about classes. Im in it for the fun not the win. Plus I am already in B prepared for my engine mods and I believe I can run slicks. But I was the only one in my class this past time so I won without doing very well at all.

and nice driving Brian. Wish we had that much room for our chapter

You can run in SM2 with your engine combo if you want.

It's a little on the heavy side though.

I cant download the rule book since its down on the local site and would like to find out more. whats the most you can mod on your car in SM2?

What is the best buy (besides slicks) for autox? Brake kit? High flow throttle body for throttle response?
