My '91 has 126K miles and the intake has a small coolant leak (6 hrs labor) I'm considering a GM crate engine replacement. Has anyone had the experience? ZZ3 perhaps? I'm in Ca. so I need to keep the smog legal, and use the same intake etc.
Regards, RB
we put the gm 300 Hp in my brother's 86 and he has no problem passing the
smog test. we just recently updated it to 1.6RR and 52mmTB. runs much better. he is scheduled for another smog test this month, so hopefully
the new mods didn't affect the emmisions that bad. . ( i think GM
replaced the zz3 motors w/ the zz4. check out the tech area of the forum, a guy posted some info about stroker kits (from chevyengines.com ;i think) pretty good prices too)
good luck
You might want to consider a partial block. You could get either the L98 replacement partial or a ZZ4 if you're going to need the extra beef on the lower end.
I bought the replacement partial for my 89, but then installed the ZZ4 valve train, CAM and other goodies along the way.
The crate engine had too many pieces I couldn't use to keep the emissions.
