Anyone heard any scuttlebutt about MaM having a Funfest in '09? Their website says dates to come, but I was looking to take my vacation so that weekend would fall in there.

The Funfest has usually been the 3rd weekend of September.

There was some talk this past year that they may move Funfest out of Effingham (due to hotel price gouging). If that happens the dates may change.

We had heard that Mr. Yaeger wants more "help" from the city of Effingham and if he does not get it he will move the shindig to Indianapolis. Not really sure what "help" means, new hotels, tax breaks, more city involvement? Traditionally Funfest has always been third week of October. If its in Indy next year, we'll pass.

The cheif cheerleader Mike Yeager is getting $300,000 dollars
to move the FunFest to Indy. I will go to Indy if he does this
good thing. The Effingham hotel owners are ripping people off.
Every year they raise the hotel prices and force you to rent for
2 nites. They are ripping us off. I spend all this money on gas and
food and buying stuff, and the hotel guys are taking us to the cleaners.
So long Effingham, and long live Indy!!!!!!!!!!

A regular day Effingham room was 60 bucks a night.
Corvette show day 130 bucks a night. So 2 nights $260.00 dollars.

I will take my chances at Indy.

Our club always has 8 or so cars there, we drive about 5 hours to Effingham, what's a couple more? After a year somewhere else, Effingham may just beg him back, I've seen it happen before to other events.

The city made a deal with Yeager and it will stay in Effingham.

Well that's good..I mean,it has to be a benefit to have it at their place.Maybe the city is going to crack down on hotels raising their prices during an event or something.Plus, didn't he just buy up or lease some surrounding land because it was getting so big? That would have been a waste.

Good news!

That is the main reason we would not be making the trip to Indy, the extra distance. We usually drove up Saturday morning and came back Saturday night so we never got gouged by the hotels there. I am surprised Mike does not erect a 1500 room corvette Hotel!

FunFest isnt as good. Ive been to many over the years.
You used to receive 2 t-shirts and free food coupons and
10 percent off and free shipping and a good Saturday Night concert
with the Beach Boys or Three DogNight.

In 2008 No free food coupons.
No free shipping just 10 percent off
A no-name country music act.
Hotel rates that are absurd

It really has gone down-hill. Very boring and Im a die-hard
Corvette guy. I think Mike Yeager is getting a little arrogant.

I still don't know where else you are going to get free admission, 2 free T shirts, 10% off OR free shipping, and get to see all that many Corvettes all in one place. We enjoyed the free food and everything in the past, but things are tough all over. I'm glad it's staying in Effingham, but I would have driven the extra miles to Indy. We always have a great time, it's worth every bit we pay and more.

but I think arrogant is an understatement. I wouldn't go to Funfest anymore if it was across the street from my house, and no, I wouldn't supply parking either. JMO

FunFest is nothing more than a Mike Yeagar money making machine.
The guy probably has 50 million bucks in the bank. The show started
out ok, but then it got worse and worse every year. Yeagar should
give out free food and shirts and free shipping. He has made millions
of dollars off of people buying his cheap crap over the years.
Now hes taking everything away to make more money.
Im staying home next year. Hes made too much money off of me.
I can see the same cars at Bloomington Gold or Super Chevy.

Funfest to me, is all about, getting together with friends I don't see very often and making some new friends along the way. I usually spend more time in the parking area looking at cars than in the event.

Hey Vette Driven this is Laurie Yager, Mikes wife. I just wanted to say that you really should meet Mike Yager. If you are a Corvette guy, I promise the two of you will hit it off. He works very hard everyday and is always at the office 10 hours a day. He loves working with, driving and especially sharing his passion for Corvettes. The lunch he does at Funfest is done for charity... 100%. I did try several times to reply to all your post in private, but your mailbox is full. Warmest Regard, Laurie
