Okay I finally found something in my car that does not work. It has the original double DIN tape/CD combo with the bose system. Everything works great except the CD player. It will not take a cd. It acts as if there is one in it, but does not display or play anything. It will not switch to the cd player with the button either(like when there is no CD in it). Is there a manual eject procedure(pinhole), or anything to try before removing the deck? If I do have to remove it I'll end up putting in something more updated.
I am not sure about the pin hole eject but I did replace my radio/cassette player in my 87. It was junk and did not work. I had a local retailer install an Alpine CDE 9845. It cost around $187 installed and the difference is unbelievable.

Yeah, I'm seriously considering replacing it, but my car is absolutely perfect and stock except for this. I just tried pulling the fuse with no help. I also slid a stiff piece of paper inside with no effect either(read in another thread). It feels like the motor/laser assembly is lifted as if there was a CD in it. I cannot see inside to know if there is or not, but as I said before it won't select the CD player to play a the CD if there was one in there...
The folks at Bud's Chev told me that the most common problem with the CD player is a belt that drys out and breaks. Maybe they'll chime in and confirm. Sounds like a cheap fix once you get the unit out.

The short answer is no. There is no paperclip hole like you would find on your computer CD Drive. I have heard disconnecting the battery cable waiting a bit and reconnecting the battery can cause the radio to belch the CD but I nver confirmed that on the factory BLOSE system.
I went with a Pioneer Avic Z series which can be seen in my corvette photos.
Yeah, as much as I hate to pull the stocker if I have to pull it at all I am updating. An install face, the proper harness, and an antenna adapter. Seems worth it to be able to put 600 mp3's on a USB drive.....

You can have yours refurbished, and modified to accept an MP3 player. Dr. Don's seems to be the most recommended place and the price for a refurb is often quoted at $150. Cheaper than an aftermarket unit, and will keep your car stock looking.
I have not used Dr. Don's yet, so can't guarantee the accuracy of this information, but it's worth a call to them to see what they can do. I happen to like the stock look, and the Bose sounds fine to me.
If you install the radio yourself, you cant beat Crutchfield.com They supply several of the needed parts at no cost with radio purchase. Good selection of different brands, with specifications.
I had removed my stock and added just an Alpine CD, but while I was having it installed at Best Buy the installer told me he had installed a Navigation System in a C4 a few weeks earlier and it filled the space where the stock radio went perfectly. Maybe possibility for you.
I had problems with the CD player also a couple months ago and sent it to Dr. Don's. His service was excellent and only took about a week from time I sent it until I got it back. Cost me $145. including shipping and I couldn't believe how well packed the radio was when it was shipped back. http://doctordons.com/ He will also refurbish radio to play MP3's for an additional charge.
I used Dr Dons twice for both my 94 and my dads 91 Bose CD players. is turn around is quick and does a great job. I believe he charges $130 for the restoration and $15 to ship it. but he can do more for you if you are willing to pay for it.

Crutchfield details what fits your car, including the speakers. They have everything that's available. I am sure others know. Just Figured good to mention, for any one interested.
I sent my 94 bose gold to Dr. Don for repair of my cassette player and to upgrade the CD to play computer burned CDRs 5 weeks. Everything works great now. Repair was $125 flat rate and $200 to upgrade the CD player; $15 shipping and Dr Don's returned packaging was awesome. I wanted to keep the radio stock, so I am very happy with the result.
