Default Antenna Removal Question

the antenna motor is OK, so just need to remove the mast from the outside. Can't figure out how to get the bezel off without damaging. and can't tell from any of the diagrams. do you pry it off, screw it off, or nevermind

thanks for your help and Happy Holidays

Mine looks like it pops out, but I have never done this. I would GENTLY pry around it with something under the tool to protect the paint and see if it lifts. Mine also looks like it just needs a fluted type socket to drop in and unscrew the whole thing. Could go either way I guess. My antenna is broken off and retracted inside, but has great radio reception anyway. I just took a black furniture nail cap and popped it in there with some silicone to hide the hole

You need an antenna mast nut socket. It unscrews, do NOT pry it off.

Just did this and you do indeed use a special mast nut socket. And it does come in the remast kit.

Understand about the nut. there is a rubber grommet on top of the nut. even the FSM references it, but doew not nention how it comes out. does this just pull out with "gentle" pressure ?

Yes very gentle. but if your remasting the motor the grommet does not need to be removed. When you pull the motor from the underside you can get the grommet out of the way. its just a rear body grommet.

Yeah we were trackin' I think the grommet you are talking about does pop out. Thing is if you can access the nut without disturbing it the nut will force it up. This is just safer incase it has a lip on it. I need to go out and look at mine again. Dammit! It's like 12F out there!

Don't **** with the rubber grommet. It's not made to come out with the antenna mast and it's not necessary to remove it to access the motor assembly.

The special tool that comes with the GM dealer replacement mast is all you need to remove the old antenna.

I think part of my antenna cable is broken off inside. I can still hear the motor run, but the antenna does not move. I've heard you can't replace the masts if the cable is broken...is that correct? Do I need a whole new setup?

No if the motor still runs you can remast the antenna with the Mast kit. The remnents are probably pulverized by now. Id try the remast kit. GC

The black plastic thingy around the antenna is a nut.
