Default Dashboard problems...

A few of my cluster lights are starting to fade out... You can flick them and they work for a few minutes.. The coolant temp word below the actual temp is flicking in and out. Also the mph numbers are starting to fade out... Need advice
Thanks

Jimbo-- Albeit I have a 93 coupe, your cluster is probably similar. I was having some of the same problems and found that the entire driver's cluster has one main horizontal connection behind it located near the bottom center. The connection is one that is pressed into placed when you put the cluster back in so it's not a seperate wire connection or anything. When the fading happens I can just press both the bottom outside corners either simultaneous or at the same time to make sure the connection is seated and the problem goes away. I guess it gets worked out of place similar to chip creap in computer connections. I found this out because my digital speedo would go eratic from time to time, so I took everything apart to put in another driver's cluster, and found that there was nothing wrong but the connection working itself loose. Just a simple 5 second solution if it works, and if not, I'm sure somebody else will chime in. Hope my .02 works for you.

Nope. Completely different starting in 1990. Anyway...

You can replace the 4 main illumination bulbs without removing the cluster assembly. Remove the tilt steering lever and the front bezel. Pry the 4 small stainless steel covers out of the cluster with a small screwdriver. Take note of how they come out. Use small needlenoze pliers with electrical tape wrapped around the tips to remove the old bulbs. Very careful installing new ones as it is easy to bend the ends of the wires.

Here are some sites you'll want to save.
