Lets go back to 1984

I've been thinking that for a little while but the lets go back to 84 so we can slobber on the 205chp Corvette is just so over the top. A new C6 is 40K and has 430chp yet he wants to go back to 84

The 84 debuted my freshman year in college. That car was incredible, always loved it, still do. i even have my R&T issue from March 84 that I received then! Time marches on and the Vette has only got better , but i love my C4, for me it's the best!

84, was a very wonderful year for me.
I owned a 73 Vette then and the 84 was light years ahead of any American car before it. Very advanced technology at the time.
In August, I met a wonderful woman. We dated, got married, had to sell my 73 for our first house. 3 Kids later and 23 years. we were able to get an 87.
So for me, 84 was a super year.

In 1984 I was a kid, and I was into mostly into racecars because the '80s didn't offer much as far as domestic readily available new cars. I was ALL ABOUT Porsche 917Ks and Group-B rally cars. I remember seeing and hearing the mid-80s Corvette, and thinking it didn't sound or act like a hot car. We knew the GN was around but I never knew anybody who had one or even saw a new one, so I never really identified with them until much later.
It wasn't until about 1993 or so, when some of my fraternity brothers started buying Nissan 300ZX twin-turbos and LT1 F-bodies that I started paying attention to Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros.

I was in college and our Auto Club was the first tour of the factory in '83 when the 84's were being built. Boy that car was "ONE BAAADDD *****" when it came out. I wouldn't want to go back but thanks for the memory trigger of how much fun we had that weekend.

A mullet is a hairstyle that is short in the front, top, and sides, but long in the back, at least to the shoulder blades. As a result it is sometimes jokingly referred to as "business in the front, party in the back." The hairstyle was popular from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. Mullets have been worn by males and females. The mullet is distinct from the rattail, which consists of a long, narrow "tail" of hair growing from the back of the head.

I give you stagflation and the Culture Club. That about sums up 1984.
There was some decent music out there if you looked. Accept, Dio, Metallica ( Ride the Lightning was new!), the Clash, ...but there was a lot of crap too.
But the best thing about 1984 was seeing it end. I had a lot of fun from about 1986 on, but the early 80's could easily be forgotten.

The 80s were a good decade on a number of fronts, the Wall came down leading to the breakup of the Soviet Union, music was much better than it is today, the national angst over the Vietnam era was finally over, and yes there was the first new Corvette in nearly 16 years.
Sure there were some bad times too like Challenger blowing up, the stock market crash of 87 (which seems like a picnic compared to today), and the first crash in collector car values (1989 anybody), but on the whole it was a vibrant if excessive decade on many fronts.
It was also a good decade to me. Two years at Columbia mid-decade for my MBA, meeting my wife, and Thanksgiving dinner in 1987 at the US ambassador's residence in Berlin are all events I will cherish. And I also had my 64 365HP convertible for most of the decade - life was good.

Agreed. From a Geopolitical standpoint, they were golden for the USA. The cold war was wrapped up peacefully and in our favor. We learned from the Challenger tragedy and returned to space in less than 3 years. But on a personal level, I don't wax nostalgic for anything more than the good times I had back in college, with family and friends, and some of the music, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to relive 1984. Not even to see Gremlins at the theater again.
Today: Ipod. 1984 Cassette Walkman
Today: Cell Phone with GPS 1984 Phone booth and a map
Today: OnStar 1984: Hitchhiking home when the car broke down.
Today: Email overseas..near instant 1984: Snail Mail overseas, 2 weeks.
Today: 275 hp family sedan. 1984: 205 hp Corvette.
Today: Ordering part for your vintage car online and having it shipped overnight. 1984. Hunting down suppliers in magazines, and used parts at swapmeets, and waiting weeks for your parts, and paying through the nose.
Today: Michael Jackson a white pedophile 1984: Black and Bad.
Hey....this is kinda fun....
These are the good old days folks.

Hell, I had a mullet in '84. Had it chopped into a tail in '85 or so.
As fun as the early '80's were (must have been, because I don't remember much of those years ) .............wouldn't want to go back.
Well, maybe except to relive the one night at the theater when my girlfriend invited me and a girlfriend of hers to her parents house while they were out of town (some things just CAN'T be forgotten).
