I figured out why I couldn't feel any nuts holding the front emblem on. The body shop that repainted the car just used 2 sided tape to put the old emblem back on :mad .
But anyway, on the new emblems, the rear came w/ 2 sided tape, and the front did not. Am I to add 2 sided tape to the front, or is it just held on by the nuts?
Thanks
Joe
On my 86 there was two sided tape on the rear only. Nuts only on the front. Use a 10mm deep socket with a short ext. and be careful and don't over tighten. Some of the forum members say to use something sticky ( I did not ) to hold the nut in the socket because you might drop it inside the hood, I dropped mine but I was able to retrieve it with a magnet. It helps if you have a friend hold the emblem one while installing, if you do it by yourself use masking tape to hold the emblem on.
Agreed. I just bought all new emblems from TLD. The tape is on the rear and gas door emblems only. My car had the original paint and emblems and there was no tape on my hood when I took the old ones off either. It may be different for other years but '85 (and apparently '86) have just the speed nuts holding the hood emblem on.
Also agree on the dropped nut deal. They are not "gone forever" if you have a magnet. I have one of those that look like a miniature auto antenae. Worked like a charm when I dropped the nut out of the socket. :D
I didn't get two sided tape on mine either. I didn't add the tape, just put it on with the nuts. This way I can remove it to get at any build up of wax, glaze or Ziano around its edges.
