Default Winter storage below ground in solid rock.

I store my corvette in a limestone mine near Pittsburgh, Pa. The advantages are, several hundred feet below ground in solid stone, no theft, fire or vandal problems.

Can withstand a necular blast. The temperature is a constant 54 degrees, practically no humidity, no winterization required, no varmints.

There are 1200 to 1500 vehicles stored here, everything from collector cars, fire trucks, RV's, bus, airplanes (wings removed), boats.

Another mine nearby stores banking records, corporate records, thousands of Hollywood motion picture films.

John

It's not just you southern boys who can drive vettes this time of year. I drive mine whenever I can. If the weather is going to be "nice:, no snow or ice then I will drive her. The one thing you southern boys have over us is that you can at least take the roof of at this time of year.

I noticed that they said gas tanks had to be 1/2 full or less - wonder why that is?

They want to limit the explosion to destroying only half the facility?

Possibly to reduce the chance of some vehicles coming in with full tanks then the gas expanding and venting fumes? Newer cars have cannisters that trap the fumes but older ones don't.

I've always been under the assumption that there'd be less risk of fire with a full tank due to the lack of oxygen in the tank. But you may have something there with the vapor issue.
